Who says you need Adrian Newey?

Is this the Mercedes GP dream team?

Mercedes GP has been hard at work shoring up its resources, and as key technical figures either quit or get fired from other outfits, the Brackley-based squad has generally been their next port of call.

Today, the team announced two new appointments to its armoury: former Ferrari technical boss Aldo Costa will become the team’s Engineering Director, while former HRT designer Geoff Willis is the new Technology Director.

And with technical director Bob Bell (formerly of Renault) already on board, the duo joins a group that includes Loïc Bigois (head of aerodynamics, formerly a technical director at Prost) and Craig Wilson (head of vehicle dynamics).

Costa is effectively reuniting with his old mentor, Mercedes GP team boss Ross Brawn, and the Italian will head up design and development. He has been linked with a move to Mercedes GP in the months following his departure from Ferrari.

For Willis, the move represents something of a homecoming, having worked for the team in its former guise of British American Racing between 2001-6. Willis was recently confirmed as having left HRT after a one-year stint as a design consultant.

Not sure as to your thoughts on the matter, but this is a seriously good line-up.
